July 3, 2012

Hey Everybody!

I hope you all had a wonderful week! My week has been a very interesting week to say the least... A week with ups and downs for sure! And I was able to dedicate a lot a lot of time to personal prayer!  Sigh... lots of praying... but I love praying! I know that there is a true power in prayer!

It is a little hard with my new comp, Elder Santos, but luckily I have been learning how to deal with it. He has a very interesting way of doing things sometimes... and when I try to let him know that he probably shouldn´t do something, he just gets all mad... so that is why I have been praying a lot this week... for strength to deal with all the things he does. He also lies a little with the numbers of lessons and new people we find... I tried correcting him but he got all mad about that too... sigh... so after a long night of praying, I just figured to let it go into the hands of the Lord. If he wants to lie about the Lord´s work, that can be over his head! He is also very prideful in almost everything he does... but oh well, he has good qualities too.

So, prayer has definitely been the theme of my life this past week, and I am so glad that I can pray and talk with our Heavenly Father. Prayer really makes my day better! Also, our Heavenly Father really does answer our prayers, in lots of different ways! But I am glad that I can be the peace maker in our companionship, otherwise my comp would still be getting mad for lots of different things... so I am just working as hard as I can, despite the opposition!

So we have 4 baptizm dates for the end of the month! Hooray! We found a family to teach and a friend of the family. We get to teach them every week at least 2 times and they are growing so much in the gospel! The Mom is named Katalin, and she has 3 sons (2 of which can be baptized with her): Anibal, Matias, and Vicente. And she has a friend which is a less active member and we are teaching the less active members son because he wants to be baptized. The mom´s name is Katalin and he sons name is Matias! How fun! Haha, we also have a huge group lesson with them all! It is so much fun and they love the gospel so much! The less active member really wants to come back to church and they all went to church this past Sunday, so that was great!

But we hit a problem with both of the families... there husbands. The husband of the less active is also less active and doesn´t want much to do with the church... and the other Katalin´s husband was fighting with her yesterday over the church and told her to choose between the church and him.... and she told him that she would think about it. She called us crying this morning and told us that she loves the gospel and she feels so happy at church and when she hears the things that we teach her. I have been praying all day! I hope this situation turns out well... but she has a lot of faith to stand up for something that she has just started to investigate! Sigh... there is definitely an opposition in all things.

But the good news is that I love the ward and the members here... and they all really love me! I am glad that the people really like me in the wards I have been in! We are working hard with the members here to strengthen the ward, because this ward is small and a lot of people left the church after the earthquake here 2 years ago... this area was largely affected by the earthquake and a tsunami. But the members have been helping us a lot with the missionary work, which is always very nice! It is so much easier to work when the members are helping us out too!

Well, that is about it! I love you so much everyone! I love you too Caralyn! I hope you all enjoy the 4th of July without me! Well, wish me luck with the cold, rain, and wind here! It is so great by the sea and in the hills! I love it! Take care everyone! I hope your Grandma feels better soon Caralyn.

Con mucho amor,
Elder Garrett
